English Education Years 7 - 12 Specialisation

This specialisation contains units designed to emphasise the importance of content knowledge in English and cover a wide range of text areas, from traditional literature to computer games. The content is closely aligned to the Australian Curriculum and to WACE syllabus and examination requirements and the units cover school curricula, teaching strategies and the development and assessment of teaching programs. Students should note that this is not a specialisation in English language instruction, it is a preparation to teach English Literature and English textual studies.

Special Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to complete a major in English, Communications, or an equivalent language arts degree (three years of degree level study with at least 4 units at level 2 or above) with at least 3 units of a strong core of textual studies including literature. Other units may include studies in communications, creative writing, linguistics, media studies. *Single focus degrees, such as creative writing, or journalism, are often lacking in the breadth of content required for the secondary English major.
