Home Economics Education Years 7 - 12 Specialisation

The specialisation prepares students to take on the challenges of teaching home economics in a range of subject areas across Years 7 to 12. Students receive specialised instruction in both the theory and practical aspects relating to food science and technology, hospitality, textiles, and family and community studies. The content is closely aligned to the requirements of the Australian Curriculum and to WACE syllabus and examination requirements, and covers school curricula, teaching strategies and the development and assessment of teaching programs.

Special Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to complete a relevant degree (three years of degree level study with at least 4 units at level 2 or above) including theoretical studies and practical applications in food preparation, technology and science, as well as hospitality, clothing and textiles and family studies.
