The specialisation is designed for students who wish to teach instruments in music in individual or group settings, and direct large scale school music ensembles. Within the instrumental component, instrumental teaching pedagogies are examined, including metacognition and modelling as teaching constructs, along with the role of repertoire selection, student motivation, and administrative and legal responsibilities. The ensembles component explores rationales for ensemble programs while developing basic conducting skills, repertoire knowledge, aural awareness and director/student relationships. The ensemble component is delivered in a practical, ensemble-based setting. Note: Instrumental music is available as a minor specialisation only and is available to Music Education Years 7 - 12 specialisation students only.
