Design and Technology Education Specialisation

This specialisation is designed for students wishing to become secondary Design and Technology teachers. Design and Technology teachers at a secondary school must be knowledgeable in a wide range of workshop areas including woodwork and metalwork. The focus of the study is on materials and systems designs within the context of contemporary technologies, and it covers content, teaching and learning, and assessment strategies, as well as the development and evaluation of teaching programs.

Special Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to complete a major in design or design related study (three years of degree level study comprising at least 6 units with no more than two at first-year level and no fewer than two units at third-year level) in areas such as architecture, graphic design, industrial design, interior design, landscape design, product design, must include at least two units of practical application in designing and producing in engineering, industrial technology (wood, metals, plastics), textile technology with workshop experience. Alternatively applicants can complete at least two years (4 units) of degree level studies in design or design related study with at least two units at level 2 or above in the previously mentioned areas, including two units of practical application, if they intend to undertake this specialisation as their minor area of study.
