Jazz VET Stream

In the jazz performance stream students develop their skills through principal study lessons, performance workshops, ensembles, aural development, theory, music technology, history and performance practice. During their study students have access to workshops and performances, and also have access to WAAPA's rehearsal spaces and practice rooms. Students learn in a multi-disciplinary academy and have access to hundreds of outstanding performances across all art forms over the course of the year. Jazz performance is designed for students wishing to develop their instrumental, improvisational and/or vocal performance skills, with an emphasis on jazz repertoire and ensemble performance.

Special Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to attend an audition. In addition, all applicants are normally expected to be turning at least 17 by 30th June in the year of commencing the course.

VET Stream Structure

This specialisation contains four core units and twelve elective units. At WAAPA, these units of competency are clustered within the delivery units of Aural/Theory, Ensemble Skills, 20th Century Music and Culture, Second Study Instrument, Composition and Electronic Music, Copyright, Professional Development Skills, OHS and Music Techniques.
