Booking and changing Orientation activities

Important

Make the most of O Week. Book as many activities as you can. Check what's on and sign up for events that will help you personally, as well as these essential ones:

  1. Welcome to ECU
  2. Course Induction (study requirements for your course, including booklists, important dates and unit advice)
  3. International Student Welcome - for international students only

Book your activities

To join Orientation activities, explore the program and make your bookings. If you have specific accessibility requirements, please check out the Lowered Sensory events below.

ECU Essentials

These sessions include Welcome to ECU – which everyone needs to attend – plus specific activities if you’re a new international student, or a new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student.

Course Inductions

Sessions include specific study requirements for your course, such as book lists, important dates, unit advice, and any practicum requirements. It's also an opportunity to meet staff and students in your School.

Study skills

Highly recommended sessions and workshops. They cover things like academic writing, study skills, using technology, numeracy, how to use the Library and academic referencing.

Lowered Sensory events

These events have been designed to support neurodivergent students or those with broader accessibility needs, allowing you to engage with content at your own pace.

Tours, wellness and social activities

Sessions that help you find your way around your campus, better understand how to balance life and uni, keep your health on track and meet other new students.

Note: Social events are also hosted during O Week and into the semester by ECU's Student Guild.

What if I can't participate in O Week?

What does
that mean?
Here's a quick guide to some of the things we mention during the Orientation stage.
  • Your course induction session (also known as school induction) is an Orientation event that provides you with specific information and study requirements for your course – including book lists, important dates, unit advice, practicum requirements (if applicable), as well as an opportunity to meet staff and students in your school.

    As a minimum, you're expected to attend a Get Set for ECU session and your course induction during Orientation. International students are also expected to attend the International Student Welcome.

  • This is your official welcome to ECU as part of Orientation. This session is all about helping you transition to university life and is essential for all commencing students. It's fun, informative, empowering and designed to help you Get Set for ECU. Register at the Orientation webpage.

  • International Student Welcome is a compulsory event for new international students during our Orientation period. This event provides information about:

    • studying in Perth;
    • satisfying the conditions of your student visa;
    • adjusting to Australian culture;
    • finding your way around Perth; and
    • receiving advice on staying safe in your new home.

    It's also a great opportunity to get to know other new students.

  • Orientation is a free program of activities to help you get ready to study as a new ECU student. Participating in Orientation will help you familiarise yourself with our university and discover important information about your course. You should attend as many Orientation activities as you can. Register at the Orientation webpage.
