Edith Cowan University (ECU) is proud to congratulate School of Arts and Humanities alum Jacobus Capone for being awarded the Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship.
First awarded in 2011, the Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship recognises outstanding talent and exceptional courage in the creative practice of Australian artists, creatives and cultural leaders.
The prestigious Fellowship is intended for individuals in their early mid-career and awarded Fellows are provided with an unrestricted $200,000 tax-free grant over two years.
As the Fellowship is not tied to any specific outcomes or projects, it provides recipients with the time, space and resources to develop their practice in peace and to take risks without fear of failure and financial hardship.
ECU alum Jacobus Capone was named as a Fellow in the 2024 cohort and is an artist based in Walyalup Fremantle, Western Australia.
His creative practice is characteristically poetic, integrating all action into one holistic experience and features performance, photography, video installation, painting, and site-specific work.
Since graduating from ECU in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts), Jacobus' work has been exhibited in a range of solo and group exhibitions across national and international institutions. These include Art Gallery of Western Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia, Tarrawarra Museum, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and exhibition spaces in Germany, Italy, Finland, USA and many more.
