Edith Cowan University (ECU) has celebrated the launch of its Bhutanese Student Association at the 2024 Australia-Bhutan Conference.

ECU has been a first choice for many Bhutanese students over the years, thanks to ECU's long-standing commitment, connections and collaboration with the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Launched before a distinguished delegation from Bhutan, academics, and scholars from all over the world, the ECU Bhutanese Student Association was jointly inaugurated by HE Mr Sonam Tobgay, Ambassador of Bhutan to Australia, and Miss Pema Chentsho, President of the ECU Student Guild.

The ECU Student Guild is run by, and for, ECU students who ensure all extra-curricular benefits of attending university are available to ECU students, while promoting the interests of its members.

Cross-cultural collaboration

The inaugural President of the ECU Bhutanese Student Association, Kinley Rinchen, said that there are enormous opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration.

"The Association provides an opportunity for students to come together, share their experiences and enrich their campus life, and will foster support for mutual benefits to promote quality of learning among students as they prepare for the world of work," Kinley said.

"It also aims to establish mutual collaboration with other universities, such as Murdoch University, to co-create Bhutanese events and benefit Bhutanese students all over Western Australia."

Bhutanese students currently constitute a large number of international students at ECU and the Association aims to highlight and share Bhutanese culture to add to the multicultural vibrancy of ECU.
