Edith Cowan University (ECU) is proud to join communities around the world in celebrating Trans Day of Visibility. The annual celebration is an opportunity to acknowledge the courage, resilience, and contributions of transgender and gender-diverse individuals.
It is a day where diverse people all around Australia share their stories, start important conversations, and attend events to celebrate equity, diversity and inclusion.
"This day is not only about visibility but also about fostering understanding, respect, and inclusion within our university community," ECU Vice-Chancellor Professor Clare Pollock said. "As we reflect on the importance of this day, let us remember that every individual deserves to feel safe and valued. It is our collective responsibility to create an environment where everyone can thrive, free from discrimination and prejudice.
"By embracing diversity, we enrich our learning and working spaces, as well as the broader university community, making it more vibrant, innovative and inclusive."
Equality and respect for all
ECU is committed to championing equality and respect for all, building a culture where every person can feel seen and celebrated for who they are.
Some positive initiatives are already in place at ECU to support transgender and gender diverse students and staff, such as Rainbow Matters. This is a dedicated resource hub available on SharePoint for staff interested in learning more about LGBTQIA+ diversity and inclusion across the university.
It was created by members of ECU's LGBTQIA+ Staff Network Working Group and the Ally Network Leadership Team.
"I encourage everyone to engage in conversations and educate themselves on the experiences of our transgender colleagues and students, and advocate for policies that promote inclusivity," Professor Pollock said.
"Let us stand in solidarity with our transgender community members today and every day, affirming our commitment to a university that champions equality and respect for all."
