The ECU Tax Clinics - in Joondalup and Carnarvon - are open for business for 2023 with enthusiastic and talented student volunteers.
The ECU Tax Clinics are part of the National Tax Clinics Program, an Australian Government-funded initiative to help people who can’t afford professional advice and representation with their tax affairs.
Under the supervision of experienced Tax Agent Dhvani Thakkar in Joondalup and retired accountant Dr Lex Fullarton in Carnarvon, ECU Accounting, Law and Finance students are able to help people with their tax affairs. Students and other individuals, small businesses and charities without a tax agent may be eligible for the assistance.
Two students who volunteer - Luong and Akanksha - are really excited to be part of the program. Akanksha is studying the Master of Professional Accounting at ECU and Luong is doing a Bachelor of Commerce. Both are looking forward to developing their practical understanding of the Australian taxation system and to play a part in helping our communities.
The ECU Tax Clinic service has been appreciated. John, one of the Tax Clinic's 2022 clients was very happy to have access the service. He said that the ECU Tax Clinic is 'absolutely awesome. I got $4500 tax return for 20 years of non-lodgement. Without the ECU Tax Clinic, I would never have got it done. Thank you very much!'
Come and see us if you need assistance, and you are eligible! Bookings are required and can be made by completing the application form on the ECU Tax Clinic website.
The ECU Tax Clinic in Carnarvon is also generously supported by the Shire of Carnarvon.
