Celebrating ECU's Professor Kerry Brown: A Winner of the 2024 Aspire Awards

Professor Brown, Professor of Employment and Industry at ECU's School of Business and Law, has been announced as a winner in the 2024 Aspire Awards, joining an elite group of Western Australian experts who are driving progress in various fields.

The 2024 Aspire Awards winners were announced by sponsors Business Events Perth, with their CEO, Gareth Martin, praising all recipients, as "outstanding candidates who represent the state's cutting-edge research, entrepreneurial strengths, and innovation, which have gained global recognition."

Aspire Award recipients receive travel grants to support their attendance at global conferences, creating opportunities to expand their networks, foster collaborations, and promote their groundbreaking work on an international stage.

Professor Caroline Finch AO, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at ECU, congratulated Professor Brown on this honour, emphasising the significance of her contributions.

"I'm delighted to see Professor Brown as this year's recipient," Professor Finch said.

"Professor Brown's contributions to industry, academia, and community have set a standard for excellence, and her Aspire Award win serves as a testament to her dedication and leadership.

"Her work in asset management and employment relations has critical implications, particularly in understanding the resilience of supply chains and infrastructure.

"She leads a talented team here at ECU and is dedicated to developing the next generation of researchers. This award will further amplify her impact on both a local and international level."

For Professor Brown, this award represents not only an exciting opportunity to share her research globally but also a moment of reflection on the impact of her work.

As Professor of Employment and Industry, she brings expertise in areas critical to the modern workforce, including asset management, government-business-community relations, and negotiation and employment relations.

Professor Brown is a significant voice in her field. Her leadership as the former President of the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (2020–2022) and her involvement as a Board Membero f the Asset Management Committee of the Institute of Public Works Engineers Australasia, the Asset Institute, and the International Society for Engineering Asset Management (ISEAM) underscore her dedication to bridging industry and academia. She is also a member of the International Standards Organisation Technical Committee TC251 on Asset Management, where she contributes to shaping global standards.

Expressing her excitement about receiving the Aspire Award, Professor Brown noted, "This award gives me an incredible opportunity to showcase the innovative research happening here in Western Australia.

"I am particularly passionate about advancing industry-based research that explores novel approaches to service delivery for communities."

She looks forward to connecting with global experts who share her commitment to impactful research.

Award recipients have three years to use their grant, allowing them to plan for conferences that best align with their research goals and offer substantial networking opportunities.

Additionally, Aspire Award recipients are encouraged to nominate international conferences that could potentially be held in Western Australia, fostering opportunities for future events that attract global experts and enhance the state’s reputation as a centre of research and innovation.
