Edith Cowan University is proud to congratulate members of the ECU Alumni community who were recognised for their outstanding contributions in this year’s Australia Day 2024 Honours List.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Steve Chapman (CBE) said the distinguished achievements of graduates from ECU is a great reflection of the calibre of individuals Edith Cowan University has become synonymous with.
“These individuals have given significant service to the community, in a broad spectrum of creative, scientific, research and artistic areas.
“I am proud to see these outstanding individuals that have passed through our University rewarded for their years of dedication to their field of endeavour. The Honours and Awards system gives the nation a chance to celebrate and acknowledge those who work tirelessly to improve local communities and to make Australia a better place,” said Professor Chapman.
The honours were announced by the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) who said that recipients had made a difference and an impact and individually, they were inspiring and collectively they speak to the strength of our communities, by showcasing the best attributes of Australians.
“While some are well-known, the majority are unsung heroes. While typically they haven’t sought thanks or recognition, they deserve both,” said the Governor General.
“Recipients come from all parts of the country and from all walks of life: their stories and backgrounds are diverse and reflect Australia, with examples of exceptional achievement in almost every field imaginable. We value their service, thank them for their hard work and selflessness and, today, celebrate them.'
The Order of Australia and the meritorious awards recognise individuals for their distinguished service. Those recognised have consistently performed to the highest standards and made major contributions to the Australia community and to humanity at large.
