ECU jumps 19 places in THE Young University Rankings

ECU has risen again, jumping an impressive 19 places to rank 64th in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings. Institutions 50 years or younger from around the world are considered in the rankings system.

Students walking at Joondalup campus ECU has jumped 19 places to poll 64th in the THE Young University Rankings 2024.

Edith Cowan University (ECU) has jumped an impressive 19 places in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings in one year to rank 64th globally.

Nationally, ECU sits in 12th position, up four places from the previous year, with no signs of slowing.

ECU has also surpassed its own Strategic Plan target of reaching the top 80 globally by 2026.

THE Young University Rankings includes the institutions that are 50 years or younger and applies a similar methodology as the World University Rankings to assess universities across core missions of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The 18 performance indicators are grouped into five areas:

  • Teaching (the learning environment)
  • Research Environment (volume, income and reputation)
  • Research Quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence)
  • International Outlook (staff, students and research)
  • Industry (income and patents)

ECU continues its rise

The THE Young University Rankings result in 2024 highlights ECU's commitment to exceptional learning, teaching and research opportunities.

In the Good Universities Guide ECU has maintained its long-standing 5-star rating for undergraduate teaching quality for 17 straight years, equal to the best in Australia.

ECU has also been ranked sixth in Australia in the inaugural AFR list, the only WA university to make the top 10.

Rankings are based on 5 categories: student satisfaction, research performance, global reputation, career impact and equity and access.
