The position of Chancellor is held for a term of up to three years and Ms McMath was elected by the University Council last week as the sixth Chancellor for ECU.
Ms McMath will succeed our esteemed Chancellor Ms Denise Goldsworthy AO, who has decided to step down immediately, allowing a clean handover as we prepare to welcome our new Vice-Chancellor.
Ms Goldsworthy has been a valued member of ECU's Council since 2013 and on behalf of the University Council, I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate her legacy and to express our gratitude for her leadership and service to our University.
We wish to thank Ms Goldsworthy for her leadership and the significant positive contribution she has made to ECU across more than a decade.
We also welcome Ms McMath to the position of Chancellor of Edith Cowan University.
A member of ECU Council since 2022, and Chair of the University's Quality Audit and Risk Committee, Ms McMath has significant governance experience and a successful track record in our sector. She comes to the role of Chancellor following an executive career of almost four decades, including extensive experience in non-executive director roles and 15 years in higher and international education.
Ms McMath was the Chief Operating Officer (formerly Executive Director, Finance and Resources and Chief Financial Officer) at the University of Western Australia (UWA) for 12 years, and prior to that was Pro-Vice-Chancellor Resources and CFO at Murdoch University for three years. In 2016, she was appointed to the position of Executive Director, Perth Education City, a major strategic initiative of the Western Australian Higher Education Council working on behalf of all five WA universities and the Minister for Education.
Ms McMath will commence the duties of Chancellor on Tuesday August 27. Her formal investiture as Chancellor by His Excellency, The Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia will be scheduled in the coming months.
I know you will join me in thanking Ms Goldsworthy for her outstanding contribution to ECU and wishing her all the best for the future, as well as welcoming our new Chancellor, Ms McMath.
