Applying for a scholarship can be the first step towards your future career.
Edith Cowan University (ECU) has a range of scholarships to help cover the costs associated with university, including textbooks, travel and other expenses.
Make a positive impact
Perth Airport Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Scholarship recipient Sarah Mills' personal experience of intergenerational trauma inspired her to study a Bachelor of Laws at ECU.
Already a small business owner, artist and photographer with a Bachelor of Arts and Honours degree to her name, Miss Mills has a desire to make a difference.
"I am studying Law at ECU to gain the skills needed to analyse situations from differing perspectives, to think critically, and fight fairly for Aboriginal children, families and communities," she said.
"I hope to use these skills to grow cultural understanding and bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
"This scholarship has given me the means to achieve my dream of contributing to a more connected and loving society."
Supportive learning environment
Bachelor of Science (Cyber Security) student and fellow Perth Airport Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Scholarship recipient, Odin Lepp, said he valued the quality teaching and support offered by ECU.
"Starting university during the COVID-19 outbreak was challenging, but the proactive communication and support I received has been outstanding," he said.
"My lecturers continually make time to give feedback or discuss any concept I find hard to grasp, by providing more detail, or taking a different approach to meet my learning style."
Job ready
Mr Lepp said his course uses current, real-world situations to prepare students beyond graduation and into a career.
"If you're interested in studying cyber security, the best time to start is now. The industry is constantly growing and will be a long-term career option as our society transitions to a more digital age."
ECU can help you create the career you want in job growth areas like STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
Believe in yourself
Mr Lepp encourages anyone considering university study to believe in themselves.
"Life is too short to be thinking about the what-ifs. Anyone can complete a degree if they put the hard work in and ECU provides excellent support for students."
Quality teaching
ECU's focus on putting students first has been recognised in the 2022 Good Universities Guide, which awarded the University a five-star rating for teaching quality for the 15th year in a row – one of only two public universities in Australia to achieve this.
ECU was also rated five stars and the best in Western Australia for overall experience, skills development, student support and learning resources.
