How to turn your passion into a whole new career

What if you could take something that you love doing, bundle it up with your previous uni qualification, and study a course that changes your world?

Better still, what if this led to a new career that could also change the world of young people?

Every day!

Because you can make this career change with a Master of Teaching degree, specialising in secondary education.

You see, the thing we know after more than 120 years of developing and graduating teachers is this.

People who have a passion for something can be great teachers.

What can you specialise in?

The Master of Teaching course has a wide range of topics you can specialise in.

There are so many options, including subjects you're passionate about, or those that match your current job skillset.

For example, you might have worked as a marine biologist or another kind of science-based professional.

If you're now looking for a change while still doing what you love, your ideal specialisation might be Science Education.

Maybe you've been a nurse or another kind of medical professional?

Health Education could be ideal for you as a specialisation.

We won't list them all here – you can find them on the Master of Teaching (Secondary) web page – but ECU offers an incredible 18 secondary specialisations.

Secondary school teachers are in demand

Australia (and Western Australia) has a shortage of teachers, including secondary teachers.

And with over 800 public schools across WA alone, there are endless opportunities for teachers.

Becoming a teacher in one of these schools can also take you to amazing places across the state.

Teaching is also a relatively stable profession, compared to many other industries.

Study on-campus and online

This is a two-year Masters course that can also be studied in fast-track mode over 18 months.

In either case, your prior university degree is recognised, whatever your subject and (generally) wherever you graduated.

It's not a course for existing teachers.

And if you're wondering how you might fit this study into your already busy life, the good news is that the second year can be studied online.

Some universities offer fully online courses, but we believe teaching is a profession where it's crucial that you're able to communicate with real people and to build relationships – with other teachers, parents and your students.

So, in your first year we'll help you build on your existing communication skills and give you real classroom experiences.

Is it time you made a change?
