Teaching is not a job; it's a calling.
And other than parenting, it's one of the most critical roles in society.
It's also one of the most fulfilling careers anyone could have.
Because children aged 5-12 are generally keen to learn about the world.
And as a primary school teacher, you get to open their eyes every day.
Why study primary teaching?
As Western Australia's leading producer of graduate teachers, we like to know what drives people to join this profession.
Many students who have chosen to study our Bachelor of Education (Primary) course, tell us it's because they love children.
Others say it's because they had a great teacher at school – someone who made a difference to them – and they want to be like them.
Whatever the reason, we give you opportunities to find out through professional experiences in real classrooms during your 4-year degree.
And because ECU has many partnerships with over 1,400 schools and early learning centres across WA, you'll experience a huge amount of variety.
The course also offers you flexibility, including part-time and online study modes and the choice of attending our Mount Lawley, Joondalup or South West campus.
You can also specialise in an area of interest such as Arts, Catholic Studies, English, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Languages, Mathematics, Music, Science and Special Education.

Teachers are in demand
Another good thing about becoming a primary school teacher is that your chance of employment is really high.
Australia (and Western Australia) has a shortage of teachers, including primary teachers, so they're in demand.
And with over 800 public schools across WA alone, there are endless opportunities.
Becoming a teacher in one of these schools can also take you to amazing places across the state.
Teaching is also a relatively stable profession, compared to many other industries.
Is primary teaching calling you?
It certainly was for Tasmin Drummond.
Tasmin had a great experience looking after young children when she worked as an au pair while travelling around Europe.
So when she returned home, she decided to start a course in Primary Education.
Tasmin has excelled in her field, winning a WA Beginning Teacher of the Year award in 2019.
If you're ready to answer the call, visit our Bachelor of Education (Primary) page.
