It's not surprising that Natasha believes in constant learning and 'upgrading' her life wherever possible.

And she's also had an instinct to teach for as long as she can remember.

So this latest – and possibly final – career switch sounds like an ideal match.

Even if it also involves navigating kids' school routines, managing a business and studying full time!

Breaking the mould

Growing up, Natasha didn't have a specific hero, but was always drawn to strong women who broke stereotypical moulds, showcasing their strength and determination.

She was drawn to studying counterterrorism as it was the first year this bachelor's degree became available at Edith Cowan University.

At the time it was seen as a male-dominated degree.

Natasha wanted to break the mould by addressing the gender balance.

She received the grades she needed in high school to get into the course, then enrolled and eventually excelled.

One busy career

Natasha spent a few years working in counterterrorism, but other things beckoned.

She completed several advanced diplomas in Remedial Massage and Sports Injury and has been operating her own clinics across Australia for the past 12 years.

Natasha says she has been blessed to have worked all over the country, and to have worked with a myriad of clients, including professional athletes in the AFL.

But after living in several states and moving her family around, certain realities came to light about her personal and workplace strengths.

And this came back to a natural instinct – to teach.

Mastering a new career

Natasha says she already feels like she gained some confidence after her first student practical as a Master of Teaching (Primary) student.

However, she was humbled by how much she still needs to understand, acknowledging that teaching is not a simple task.

Natasha says that having lecturers who make themselves available for any queries or concerns about assessments has really helped her progress.

ECU offers three Master of Teaching degrees that are designed for people like Natasha who have experience in other fields and want to switch careers.
