CUS50109 - Diploma of Music (Contemporary)

Effective from 01-JAN-2016 : Code C44

This nationally-recognised qualification is the first year of a two-year vocational contemporary music program at WAAPA. The course is designed for musicians wishing to develop their songwriting, instrumental (including vocal), ensemble and musicianship skills. Students attend classes in songwriting, stagecraft skills, technology, history, theory, aural and second study. On completion, a successful Music artist would be expected to gain national industry recognition.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to attend an audition. Additionally, students are also required to attend an interview. It is desirable that all applicants have a Certificate IV qualification in music, eg. CUS40109 Certificate IV in Music. All applicants are required to have extensive vocational experience in music practice.

Portfolio pathway applications are not accepted for this course.

The VET Units of Competence are clustered within the WAAPA course delivery units using the industry terms: Ensemble, Songwriting-Arranging, Studio Skills, Professional Management, Concert Practice, Electronic Music, Media Performance, Aural, Copyright, History, OH S, Second Study, and Theory/Rhythm/Improvisation.
