You'll go behind the scenes and learn how an AFL club operates, build your professional network and make your mark in this exciting and growing industry.
This course information may be updated and amended immediately prior to semester. To ensure you have the correct outline, please check it again at the beginning of semester. In particular please check the course requirements and the unit and unit set offerings, as these differ according to course delivery location.
Students will engage in work-based WIL learning opportunities as part of this course (i.e., they will complete 80-100 hours of practical experience across various departments at the West Coast Eagles club) and many of these will build upon existing WIL opportunities found within School of Business and Law units. These WIL opportunities will be aligned to the key learning in many of the units in the diploma. These opportunities are especially important given the industry’s need for work-ready graduates, while also allowing students to showcase their abilities and secure possible employment with the club. This real-world practical experience and the potential to be considered for graduate roles at the West Coast Eagles are key points of difference for the proposed Diploma in Sport Business.
Students will be required to abide by the conditions of their enrolment and WIL around confidentiality and professional behaviour in the workplace and place of study.
Some of the work-based WIL course will occur during match-days and other activities associated with running an Australian Football League club and/or its associated partners. As such, these activities will often occur on weekends or at nights.
The WIL activities are tied to specific unit(s) and will be clearly communicated to students when they enrol in said units in the new course.
Students will adhere to the SBL policies and procedures around participating in work-integrated learning opportunities and as a student on placement.
Students can fail a practicum component within a unit(s) but still pass the unit and course based on their performance in the other assessment tasks within the unit and course.
