This course is for qualified Social Workers who wish to substantially extend their knowledge and skills for social work across a range of human services settings. Students will increase their knowledge as well as their analytical and practice skills and abilities, to meet the challenges of high level demanding work environments. A key feature of the course is the theoretical and research engagement between the social and life sciences for the study of complex social problems in contemporary life. Students will study units that extend the boundaries of traditional social work theoretical approaches in human behaviour, human service delivery, professional supervision and leadership. This feature of the course builds on the significant strengths of ECU in the areas of interdisciplinary learning and health advancement. Students will also have the opportunity to undertake original practice research as part of their studies. These projects may be linked to industry projects or conducted in the students' workplaces. Students are also provided the opportunity to develop advanced theoretical knowledge in key areas relevant to social work as a discipline.

Students can apply for membership with Australian College of Social Work. Graduates are eligible for membership with Australian College of Social Work. This course can be used as part of an application to the Australian College of Social Work (ACSW) through ACSW Pathway A membership process.
All applicants are required to hold an undergraduate or postgraduate award in Social Work that provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
