Master of Environmental Management

This course allows students to develop an understanding of the principles and procedures necessary for professionals to practice applied environmental management. Students will receive training relevant to the environmental management industry and will conduct a significant research/industry training project. The course covers areas such as environmental impact assessment and monitoring, and emphasises the global, regional and local nature of environmental issues. Students will also learn about environmental management systems, environmental auditing and risk assessment.

Course Learning Outcomes
- Communicate relevant disciplinary knowledge and research results, in writing and orally, and make sustained arguments to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Demonstrate advanced and integrated knowledge of Environmental Management that includes the understanding and evaluation of recent developments.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of research principles and methods through review and analysis of existing research relevant to work and learning in the field of Environmental Management.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills as it applies to research design, research methods and/or professional practice in Environmental Management context.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to make decisions based upon their full environmental, social, cultural and economic implications relating to Environmental Management.
- Design, evaluate, implement, analyse and theorise about developments that contribute to professional practice or scholarship in Environmental Management through the submission of a project.
- Design, plan, execute and evaluate a substantial piece of research, with accountability, which contributes to theory and/or practice in a discipline of Environmental Management.
- Exercise technology and information literacy to locate, critically apply and evaluate both local and international specialist information.
- Independently integrate theoretical and technical knowledge to contribute to the development of theory, understanding and practice in Environmental Management.
- Investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems and concepts in Environmental Management through the practical application of relevant advanced technologies, recent literature, and quantitative methodologies.
- Reflect critically on theory and professional practice as applied in Environmental Management.
Admission requirements
- Into a 120 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor Honours degree in the same discipline; or
- Into a 180 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor degree in the same discipline; or
- Into a 180 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor Honours degree; or
- Into a 240 credit point Masters Degree, a Bachelor degree; or
- Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years appropriate professional experience.
Course Specific Admission Requirements
All applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree in any discipline other than Environmental Management/Science. Alternatively applicants can enter upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Environmental Management or the Graduate Diploma of Environmental Management.
