Master of Education

Effective from 01-JAN-2021 : Code L87

This coursework program provides an opportunity for motivated professionals concerned with educational practice to undertake advanced coursework in a field of particular interest to them, and to gain an internationally recognised postgraduate qualification. A study of the advanced coursework units will provide students with knowledge and understandings across a range of specialist areas suited to their needs and choices. Note: This Masters degree is not a teaching qualification. Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit for previous Postgraduate Studies Students are eligible for Advanced Standing for up to 60 credit points who: 1. have completed AQF level 8 Graduate Certificate of Education; or 2. have progressed through the ZJNU-taught component of the ZJNU Education Leadership Specialisation. A maximum of six units credit can be gained for RPL and advanced standing for previous postgraduate studies.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an extended understanding of contemporary developments and the theoretical underpinnings within the specialisation and their application to education and regulatory policy.
  2. Critically analyse and choose appropriate research methods and approaches applicable to developing new knowledge and best practice in education.
  3. Demonstrate mastery of theories, concepts and practices of the specialisation.
  4. Identify, critically analyse and synthesise relevant information to apply innovative ideas to seek solutions to problems and opportunities in the specialisation.
  5. Demonstrate mastery of technical, trans-literacy and creative skills required to generate educational innovation.
  6. Apply advanced knowledge and skills to theorise, plan, implement and evaluate relevant educational policy, curriculum or strategy.
  7. Demonstrate a high level of interdependence and accountability through continual self-directed and collaborative learning and reflection on professional practice.
  8. Plan and execute a substantial research project in the specialisation which can inform and guide future practice.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to have a Bachelor of Education. Alternatively applicants can have a Bachelor level degree in any other field, plus a Graduate Diploma of Education, with equivalents considered, or have a Bachelor level degree in any related field, with relevant professional experience, or be a three-year trained teacher with relevant professional experience.

Note: Students enrolled in the Education Leadership specialisation or the Positive Schooling and Wellbeing specialisation will complete 3 units, totalling 60 credit points, rather than 4 units.
