Graduate Certificate in Communication

The communication landscape is changing daily, with digital disruption the only constant. Studying the Graduate Certificate, you will be equipped with the professional and theoretical knowledge to meet this disruption head on, with confidence. While companies grapple with protecting their reputation and behaving ethically under intense scrutiny from many stakeholders, communication professionals need to provide counsel at the highest level. The course has a laser focus on current and future industry concerns, and is taught by leaders in industry and research, with an emphasis on engagement and ethical and inclusive communication. You will develop, through a fully online offering, the critical thinking, analytical and practical skills needed to meet the environmental, social, technological and governance challenges communicators and organisations face daily. We will go beyond the acronyms and buzzwords in current communication practice, and equip practitioners, through real-world practice, to be excellent communication professionals in their chosen industry. After you complete the Graduate Certificate in Communication you can extend your studies, you can explore enrolling in either the Graduate Diploma or Master of Communication, where you will get to work on a major communication project. ECU’s Graduate Certificate in Communication will give you the foundational knowledge and skills to start your journey towards becoming a confident and capable communicator.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply specialised strategic and digital communication knowledge to communication practice in the field.
  2. Apply independent judgement when researching and analysing complex communication issues to create appropriate solutions.
  3. Communicate specialised knowledge, concepts and skills to a variety of audiences.
  4. Demonstrate management skills by planning, preparing and evaluating communications materials.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 6)

  • Bachelor degree; or
  • Equivalent prior learning including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level

This course has been accredited by ECU as an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate Award.
