The Bachelor of Music is designed to prepare students for entry into the many branches of the music profession. The strength of the program is in its interdisciplinary nature. For example, not only are the core areas of history and theory taught through a broad range of music, but at every stage in the course the structure also allows students to pursue highly specialist training in areas both inside and outside their major. With strengths in performance (classical, contemporary and jazz) and composition, musicology, ethnomusicology, music technology and theory, the WAAPA BMus has a specialist staff of pedagogues and scholar-performers whose expertise spans the whole gamut of the music world today. Regardless of the area of specialisation, the Bachelor of Music prepares students for a wide range of employment options in a variety of different industries. For example, a performance specialisation can lead to employment as an accompanist, orchestral musician, composer, concert manager, music administrator or music teacher. A composition and music technology specialisation can lead to employment as a composer, film scorer, music producer, teacher, DJ or audio technician.
