The commercialisation, professionalisation and globalisation of sport has increased demand for university graduates with analytical and practical skills for managerial positions. This Sport Business major equips students with the knowledge, practical skills and transferable employability skills, including leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, communication and problem-solving, required to function as business professionals and industry leaders in contemporary sport agencies and organisations, as well as for managing their own sport business. It commences with an introduction to the sport industry and focuses on the application of key sport business principles including; marketing, sport delivery systems, strategic and human resource management, funding and finance, legal aspects, marketing analytics, sport venue and event management, and business research and planning. It also offers a range of situated learning experiences, including industry placements, and community-interactive project work. Course exclusion: This major cannot be studied in the Bachelor of Sport, Recreation and Event Management.

Please note this major has a practicum unit (SPM2111) which is core to the program. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 20 hours at a host organisation. These hours may be outside normal university hours.
SPM2111: Students will undertake a work integrated learning micro-placement of a minimum of 20 hours in a not-for-profit, incorporated sport organisation/club.
Some host organisations may require clearances, screenings and certificates, and will liaise directly with students regarding any requirements. A placement host organisation may have vaccination and other requirements. Please consider this requirement before enrolling in this unit-set, and speak with the Course Coordinator if this raises any concerns. You may not be able to complete placement units if you are unable to meet the placement requirements, which may impact your ability to complete this unit-set.
Students are required to complete 20 hours per practicum at their host organisation. These hours may be outside normal university hours.
Students are required to submit a current resume, a statement addressing their suitability and may be required to attend an interview.
Students will be enrolled into SPM2111.
Students are provided with Student Guidelines for Work Integrated Learning which detail the expected behaviour and conduct while working in the host organisation.
