Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge regarding curriculum policy, pedagogy and teaching strategies for secondary health and physical education.
  2. Review, analyse and synthesise knowledge of pedagogical practices to plan for the delivery of health and physical education teaching.
  3. Exercise critical thinking and judgement to identify and solve problems.
  4. Communicate knowledge and ideas clearly in both written and oral formats.
  5. Demonstrate initiative and exercise professional judgement and collaborate to plan, problem solve and make decisions in health and physical education.
  6. Analyse and implement knowledge and skills in diverse contexts to create positive learning environments in health and physical education.
  7. Critically reflect using accredited standards and mentor feedback, to plan for continued collaborative and autonomous professional learning and development.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates will be eligible to seek employment in both government and non-government secondary schools teaching Health and Physical Education.

Major Structure

Students must complete 10 Content units and 2 Curriculum units. Content units educate students in the subject area and the Curriculum units explain how to teach the subject area to others. NOTE: Students not choosing the Outdoor Education minor will study OED1100 Outdoor Pursuits instead of SPS2206 Applied Exercise Physiology and Programming.
