English prepares students to enter the world of work as a rigorous reader, compelling writer, effective speaker and an engaged, respectful world citizen - all marketable skills of a leader. Students develop a high level of transferable English language skills, along with a thorough understanding of human nature, through the breadth and depth of their reading. Not only great teachers and writers major in English. The list of famous English graduates spans the entertainment industry, from filmmakers (Steven Spielberg), to actors (David Duchovny and Reece Witherspoon). Even the President of Nickelodeon/MTV majored in English. Students of this major are in a unique position to devise their own program of specialised literary study.
