Palliative Care Nursing Specialisation

This specialisation provides Registered Nurses with the knowledge to develop expertise in the provision of palliative care.

Special Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to be employed for a minimum of 18 hours per week in a palliative care setting.

Learning Within Existing Workplace Requirement

Students are required to undertake a year-long practicum unit whilst employed within their specialty clinical area. Students are assessed in the work place by their individual Clinical Facilitators and are required to demonstrate their competency in accordance with the advanced practice standards of their related professional organisation.

Attendance requirements

Students are required to be working at least 18 hours per week in a palliative care setting

Implications of failing

Students must pass the year-long practicum unit in order to graduate with the specialisation.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply and model communication and collaboration skills to analyse and design innovative contributions to professional practice.
  2. Apply cognitive and creative analytical skills to investigate, evaluate and synthesise complex ideas, concepts and theories in authentic palliative care situations.
  3. Reflect critically on a complex body of palliative care knowledge, research principles and methods to demonstrate mastery of Palliative Care Nursing practice.
  4. Use high level self-management skills to initiate, plan and execute a substantial research-based project.
