Secondary Mathematics Specialisation

This unit set provides an opportunity for motivated and academically capable primary and secondary teachers to re-engage in a learning area of great demand, although it does not provide a formal accreditation of a mathematics minor, as such. An emphasis upon both the Australian Curriculum content for mathematics and best teaching practice for late primary and lower secondary students in Australian schools is a strong and consistent theme across all units. The unit set provides a refresher and a consolidation of content skills up to and including Year 10 mathematics, and closely examines the learning needs of students in mathematics as they transition from primary to secondary school. It is supported by both highly organised unit materials and flexible off-campus, online delivery. Recent participating teachers have consistently found new mathematics teaching work in schools, or greatly improved their understanding of teaching mathematics. From 2020 an optional elective choice allows some examination also of Year 11 and 12 pedagogy.

All applicants are required to demonstrate a satisfactory achievement in ATAR Maths Applications, or the equivalent (including Maths WACE 2A/2B).
