Unit Set Information

Production Design VET Specialisation

Effective from 01-JAN-2022 : Code VSAABD

This specialisation is structured to provide training in the principles, techniques and processes required in designing set and costumes for live production, including theatre, opera, dance and music theatre. After initial exposure to basic visualisation and research skills, students are confronted, as a learning experience, with challenging design projects including sets, props and costumes. These projects precede practical design involvement in WAAPA productions. Students also attend classes in drawing, model making, scenic painting, props construction, set construction, art finishing, technical drawing and computer aided design.

Non Standard Timetable Requirements

Students may be required to attend and/or support evening and weekend rehearsals and performances. These may be at locations external to WAAPA, ECU.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates are employed in a professional capacity as set and costume designers for live production, including theatre, opera, dance and music theatre.
