Master of Nursing

Effective from 01-JAN-2019 : Code J88

This course enables students to develop in-depth knowledge of a range of contemporary health care challenges and directions within a national and international context. Students have a suite of units to choose from which enables them to plan a bespoke program of study to meet their individual needs and those of their health care context in which they are situated.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply cognitive and creative analytical skills to investigate, evaluate and synthesise complex concepts and theories in authentic practice settings and contexts.
  2. Apply communication and collaboration skills to design innovative contributions to professional practice.
  3. Reflect critically on a complex body of contemporary health care system knowledge, research principles and methods to demonstrate mastery of nursing practice.
  4. Use high level self-management skills to initiate, plan and disseminate a substantial project

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 8)

  • Bachelor degree in a cognate discipline; or
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience.

English Language requirement (Band 4)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Bachelor degree from a country specified in the Admissions Policy;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at postgraduate level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
  • Where accepted, equivalent prior learning, including at least five years relevant professional experience; or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to have a Bachelor degree in nursing. Applicants with equivalent prior learning must have two years full-time (or equivalent) post registration professional practice, and all applicants must also provide proof of current registration with the relevant nursing registration board and submit a current curriculum vitae including two professional references (submitted independently of the students application).
