Undergraduate Certificate in Science (Exercise and Sports Science)

Are you interested in health, fitness and general well-being? If you like the idea of helping other people improve their lifestyle or sports performance through exercise, this University Certificate could be your pathway into an exciting career in Exercise Science. The Undergraduate Certificate of Exercise and Sports Science prepares students for university study and provides a stand-alone qualification as an introduction to the discipline. The course is designed to help students build the skills and knowledge required for academic success in Exercise and Sports Science and develop capacity and confidence as an independent learner. Successful completion of the of this Undergraduate Certificate will qualify graduates for entry into the M89 Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sports Science), (with credit for 3 units) and the W31 Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sports Science)/ Bachelor of Commerce (Sport Business) course (with credit for 2 or 3 units). Successful completion will also provide a pathway for entry into a wide range of other courses. Completion of the course also provides a recognized qualification in its own right. The course is suitable for both recent school leavers and mature age students who have not studied at university previously.

  1. Communicate specialised exercise and sport science knowledge and concepts in a variety of ways
  2. Use critical and creative thinking to analyse, interpret and formulate responses to diverse exercise and sport science challenges.
  3. Exercise accountability and responsibility for the development of exercise and sport science knowledge, technical skills and values to enhance personal growth.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 2)

All applicants must meet the academic admission requirements for this course. The indicative or guaranteed ATAR is as published (where applicable) or academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Year 12 completion or equivalent.

English Language requirement (Band 3)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Year 12 English ATAR/English Literature ATAR grade C or better or equivalent;
  • Special Tertiary Admissions Test;
  • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0);
  • Successfully completed 1.0 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher in the UK, Ireland, USA, NZ or Canada;
  • University Preparation Course;
  • Indigenous University Orientation Course;
  • Aboriginal University Readiness Assessment;
  • AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree;
  • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent); or
  • Other tests, courses or programs as defined in the Admissions Policy.
