10171NAT - Certificate IV in Aboriginal Performance

This course prepares Indigenous performers with a range of knowledge and skills to enter the performing arts industry as an actor for roles in theatre, television and film productions. On successful completion of the course students will have integrated dance, singing and acting into a performance skill; acquired a basic knowledge of Indigenous culture in the context of performance; and knowledge of the communication skills necessary to audition for and perform roles in theatre, television and film.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Analyse and plan approaches to technical problems or management/performance requirements.
  2. Apply known technical or creative skills to a range of situations.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of a broad knowledge base incorporating some theoretical concepts.
  4. Effectively demonstrate the skills and knowledge required by a performer in rehearsal, performance and studio work.
  5. Evaluate information, using it to review self or others performance.
  6. Have an understanding of the concepts, skills and knowledge required by a performer.
  7. Involved participation with some leadership and guidance when organising activities of self and others as well as contributing to technical solutions of a non-routine or contingency nature.
  8. Understand and respond appropriately to terminology employed by the industry.

Admission requirements

Admission requirement (Band 1)

  • Completion of Year 10 or equivalent.

English Language requirement (Band 1)

English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

  • Year 10 English completion or equivalent.

Course Specific Admission Requirements

All applicants are required to attend an interview. Alternatively applicants must produce another form of evidence where the candidate demonstrates competence in performance; acting skills; or dance and movement skill, to a Certificate III level. Additionally applicants must normally be turning at least 17 by 30th June in the year of commencing the course.
