Management Major

This major is recommended for students wishing to enhance their knowledge and focus their studies towards a career in management. It is relevant for all line managers, and professionals aspiring to managerial positions. The major develops students theoretical and practical understanding of organisational behaviour, leadership, general management, strategic management, human resource management and business ethics, as well as providing the transferable employability skills of critical thinking, teamwork, communication and problem-solving, sought by graduate employers, to open doors to a wide range of career options.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Collaborate in team settings to produce measurable outcomes and evaluate team processes in a business environment.
  2. Communicate and convey management knowledge, advice and ideas clearly in both written and oral formats, using relevant levels of technology and transliteracy proficiency.
  3. Demonstrate awareness and knowledge of issues related to sustainability and cross-cultural aspects (including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives) in a globalised work context.
  4. Demonstrate in depth, broad and coherent knowledge of the theories, underlying principles, concepts and techniques in management as a basis for independent lifelong learning.
  5. Demonstrate initiative and judgement to identify, plan, make decisions and solve management problems.
  6. Exercise critical thinking and judgement to recommend appropriate solutions to solve unpredictable and sometimes complex management problems using social, ethical, legal, economic, regulatory and global perspectives.
  7. Obtain, analyse and interpret management information applying an international perspective to create, manage or adapt innovative ideas, concepts or techniques.
  8. Reflect on and evaluate personal practices and performance feedback to identify opportunities for learning in the context of employment and life.
  9. Review, analyse, synthesise and integrate theory and practical application of management knowledge in the areas of organisational behaviour, leadership, general management, strategic management and people management.
