Sustainable Planning Major

This major is recommended for students wishing to focus on how urban and regional planning can influence the sustainability of built and natural environments. It provides students with an understanding of how the principles and practices of sustainability are incorporated in urban and regional planning systems in Australia. It includes concepts of environmental planning, sustainable transport, and the influence of urban design on sustainable built environments.

Work Experience Option

Students in this unit set have the opportunity to seek a Work Integrated Learning placement with an industry partner.

Duty of care

Students must participate in an induction on the requirements and procedures for completing work placement including documentation and risk management.

Attendance requirements

Students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours. Host organisations may require students to attend work after hours and on the weekends.

Application process

Students are required to submit a current resume, a statement addressing their suitability and may be required to attend an interview.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Collaborate in team settings to produce measurable outcomes and evaluate team processes in a business environment.
  2. Communicate and convey business knowledge, advice and ideas clearly in both written and oral formats, using relevant levels of technology and transliteracy proficiency.
  3. Demonstrate in depth, broad and coherent knowledge of the theories, underlying principles, concepts and techniques of sustainable business management as a basis for independent lifelong learning.
  4. Demonstrate initiative and judgement to identify, plan, make decisions and solve sustainable business management problems.
  5. Exercise critical thinking and judgement to recommend appropriate solutions to solve unpredictable and sometimes complex sustainable business management problems or issues using sustainable social, ethical, legal, economic, regulatory and global perspectives.
  6. Obtain, analyse and interpret sustainable business management information applying an international perspective to create, manage or adapt innovative ideas, concepts or techniques.
  7. Reflect on and evaluate personal practices and performance feedback to identify opportunities for learning in the context of employment and life.
  8. Review, analyse and synthesise theoretical and technical sustainable business management knowledge to pair a business with a suitable environment.
