Three ECU staff members have been recognised for their resilience, perseverance and commitment to gender equality with an Edith Cowan Athena SWAN Advancement Scheme honour in the sixth round of the Awards.

The Edith Cowan Athena SWAN Advancement Scheme aims to celebrate gender diversity in the spirit of the Athena SWAN principles, providing professional development opportunities to those who have parental or caring responsibilities as they progress in their careers and/or recognising ECU’s gender equality champions who make a difference to the status quo at work every day through exemplary leadership.

Members of the ECU community celebrated the winning recipients at a ceremony which took place on 29 September 2021, co-hosted by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steve Chapman and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Regional Futures), Professor Cobie Rudd.

As part of the Ceremony, the audience heard from Dr Michelle Ellis (Outreach and Engagement Co-ordinator, School of Science), a two-time winning recipient winner in 2017 and 2020. Dr Ellis gave an update on how the Scheme’s funds  have helped her to drive and deliver computing and security workshops to regional schools in the wheatbelt area, boosting the profile of computing and security science in regional/district high schools.

ECU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steve Chapman CBE, presented certificates to the recipients of the awards and acknowledged how important the Athena SWAN Advancement Scheme is to the University.

In a very competitive round, the three winners of the 2021 Edith Cowan Athena SWAN Advancement Scheme are:
