ECU's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Regional Futures) talks about the importance of accelerating change on International Women's Day 2024.
On International Women's Day, 8 March 2024, the South West Region of WA had the privilege of having ECU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Regional Futures) and Vice-President, Professor Cobie Rudd, deliver the opening Keynote Address at the Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s International Women’s Day Celebrations.
Professor Rudd talked about this year’s International Women’s Day theme - ‘Count her in: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress’, presenting important findings from the recently-released Workplace Gender Equality Agency’s gender pay gap dataset in Australia. Speaking of her passion for the Athena Swan initiative, she provided an overview of ECU’s achievements and progress to date, noting the importance of evidence-based and data-driven approaches in achieving real outcomes.
“Accountability starts from the top, we must serve as active role models and agents for change to truly accelerate progress”.
This was followed by a diverse panel discussion comprising a group of accomplished women across numerous industries, sharing their stories and views on accelerating progress and working together as key to success.
Professor Lyn Beasley AO, former WA Chief Scientist (2006-2013) closed the luncheon.
Let's continue championing gender equality and equity, not just on International Women's Day, but every day.
