When an email announcing that the paid parental leave provisions were changing to be more flexible and gender neutral, it caught the attention of Ben Jones who had become a father earlier this year. His partner had already taken time out from her job for the birth and to stay at home, but was due to return to work. Ben was pleased to be able take the opportunity to be a stay-at-home dad and support his partner by sharing the 'career break' with her during his son's first year.
'I am looking forward to spending time with Angus, taking him to activities such as swimming lessons and rhyme time. I know it will be busy at home but it's important that my partner is able to return to work and I am looking forward to supporting her. ECU has provided the flexibility, and offered paid leave to make it possible for me to take time out and be with my son.
I enjoy working at ECU because of the positive environment, it values employees who have families and careers, and there are opportunities for advancement and professional development. Being in public relations you need to believe in what the organisation you are working for is trying to achieve, the culture it promotes, I feel that I can do that at ECU.'
