Commitment to Mental Health and Wellbeing

At ECU, we recognise that our commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of our students and staff goes hand in hand with our success. ECU students and staff are supported to develop and maintain positive mental health and resilience. Our Mental Health Strategy 2021-2024 outlines all aspects of our university-wide approach to mental health and wellbeing.

ECU is recognised as a Mental Health First Aid Gold Skilled Workplace 2019-2023. Staff are encouraged to sign up for Mental Health First Aid training.

Student Mental Health and Wellbeing

We understand that our students are individuals with differing needs that may change during their studies. We recognise our support services must be tailored to diverse needs and be adaptable to address individual circumstances. Students at ECU can access a range of services to support their mental health and wellbeing.

Our Counselling team also run a range of workshops addressing the challenges of studying at university.

Further support

  • The Out of Hours Crisis Line is available to students outside of business hours. Call 1300 583 032 or text 0488 884 232.
  • ECU's Access and Inclusion provide support for students with diverse study needs, particularly students with a permanent or temporary disability or medical condition which may impact on their participation.
  • Student Success support students with their study progress, health and wellbeing and can assist with developing action plans to overcome personal challenges.

Staff Mental Health and Wellbeing

Staff at ECU are supported with a range of services and programs.

  • Access to the Employee Assistance Program which provides employees and their immediate family members access to free and confidential counselling for either personal or work related issues.
  • Our health and wellness program for staff, Live Life Longer, gives the opportunity to participate in activities that can help staff become healthier, reduce stress and enjoy life.
  • The Crisis Support page provides a list of resources for those needing immediate help.
