After extensive consultation, change to all Campus Library collections is underway as we look towards the opening of ECU City, due for completion in late 2025.
The Library will continue to evolve over the next few years as we prepare for the new location. Refining the collections means a range of work will be carried out by Library staff, including to review, relocate, remove, and update Library resources.
While some print resources will be removed, focus will be placed on valuable items and hidden gems which will be retained and stored at the new purpose-built campus or integrated within existing Library collections.
In early 2021 the Library Services Centre presented a consultative planned approach for refining Library Collections to the Library Consultative Committee (LCC) and University Executive.
Following endorsement of the plan the Library Services Centre consulted with schools to identify gaps and requirements for specific disciplines. The consultation process focussed on current requirements as well as future needs of staff and students.
Refinement incorporating feedback from each round of consultation is now underway. As is characteristic of an academic Library, the collections will retain a rounded perspective and be respectful of historical content.
Take some time to become familiar with our significant online resources. Access to eBooks has doubled in 2022, with well over 600,000 eBook items currently available to all ECU staff and students. These complement other formats in the collection spanning audio visual items, journals titles and more.
You can access online items via Library search or directly through the A-Z list of databases.
Changes to our print collection are essential to facilitate the opening of ECU City. Please respect our team as they implement changes over the coming months. You’ll see Library staff actively sorting through the physical collections, with trolleys at the shelves as they undergo manual processes. You’ll see items being reorganised, and some collection items being moved to another campus, in line with the proposed future University structure. Don’t worry – the online catalogue will be updated prior to any items moving so you can easily locate what you’re looking for.
The Library may initiate further consultation as plans for ECU City evolve.
Please remember to enquire should you require assistance with Library services.
