Read & Publish Agreements for 2023 are now available

After success of the Read & Publish Agreements in 2022 the Library is excited to announce that new and returning Read and Publish Agreements are now available.

Read and Publish Agreements continue to evolve and are developed between institutions and publishers with Open Access publishing the end goal.

Read & Publish Agreements present a way forward for increased readership and citation.

The Agreements offer an alternative to the traditional publishing route of access via paid subscription.

Open access publishing removes barriers to published research making publications open for everyone to read in nominated journal titles.

Additional publishers in 2023

This year additional publishers have offered Read and Publish Agreements. The ECU Library is pleased to offer these opportunities to ECU Research staff and students.

Benefits of the Agreements

  • Authors can publish via Open Access on acceptance and retain copyright of their articles.
  • Publish free of Article Processing Charges (APCs); these are factored into the agreements.
  • Wider readership and sharing of research.
  • Potential for more citations and increased altmetric attention.

Read & Publish Agreements negotiated by CAUL

Australia’s industry body Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) has successfully re-negotiated Read & Publish Agreements with existing vendors and added additional agreements with large publishers.

Of these, ECU is now participating in R&P Agreements with:

  • Cambridge University Press
  • CSIRO
  • Elsevier
  • Oxford University Press
  • SAGE
  • Springer Nature
  • Taylor and Francis
  • The Company of Biologists
  • Wiley

Publication opportunities are available with these vendors throughout 2023.

The offer is open to participating CAUL institutions and some publishers have offered capped allowances.

Allowance usage will be monitored and communicated via ECU Library website pages.

What does this mean for my publication?

If you are a researcher and your preferred journal with the above publishers is included in the agreement, you can submit eligible articles for Open Access publication with no APC.

How do I submit my article?

Each publisher’s submission process is defined in the ECU Library information pages.

It’s imperative that you:

  • assess the quality of the journal before committing
  • closely follow each step outlined in the submission process
  • utilise your ECU staff or student email address as this assists determine eligibility

Agreement dashboard

To further assist ECU authors locate eligible, relevant and highly ranked journals to publish within, the Library has developed a dashboard accessible via the Library Guide:

The dashboard can be searched by:

  • Field of Research (FoR) code
  • FoR description
  • Journal Title

It identifies whether journals are included in an R&P agreement, the Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) and links to the journals' website (if available).

Open Access publication is supported by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) via the Conducting Research with Integrity Policy

  • 4.24 The University encourages Open Access to Research where possible and appropriate, especially where the Research was publicly funded.
