Study Essentials has been designed by your ECU Librarians.

It’s an essential online resource giving you lots of the critical information you need to be a successful student at ECU.

Study Essentials is designed to help you! 

Whilst perfect for new students, it’s packed full of information that will continue to serve you well into your later semesters and post-grad studies.

It's divided into four main guides:

  • Library Essentials is for successful use of the Library – using the generous facilities and collections content ECU Library offers its students.
  • Digital Essentials teaches you how to operate in a digital learning environment. It includes the new GenAI Guide and SLIDE (Student Learning in a Digital Environment), with self-paced modules you can work through.
  • Information Essentials is for effective search and research skills, support for evaluating information sources, and information on referencing. These days it’s essential as a student to be able to distinguish quality information from inaccurate information sources.
  • Finally, Assignment Essentials has been moved to Canvas and steps you through a range of assignment types you might encounter at ECU, and contains info on exam preparation.
