ECU supports employees having access to flexible working arrangements to help you manage your work and life responsibilities. Some types of flexible work arrangements available include: part-time work; purchasing additional annual leave; home-based work; flexible start and finish times and, end-of-career contracts.

We also offer a range of employment for both Academic and Professional staff including:

  • ongoing permanent contracts;
  • temporary or fixed-term contracts for short to medium term employment;
  • casual or sessional academic assignments;
  • collaborations – visiting, adjunct and honorary academic appointments.

We like to ensure our staff have access to the entitlements they deserve for a quality life outside of work.

Our leave entitlements include:

  • up to 26 weeks paid primary carer’s leave on the birth, or adoption, of a child
  • paid partner leave
  • annual leave of four weeks per annum plus 17.5 per cent leave loading
  • the opportunity to purchase additional leave
  • generous long service leave of 13 weeks
  • cultural and ceremonial leave
  • additional leave for Indigenous employees to attend NAIDOC activities or events
  • personal leave
  • defence forces and emergency services participation leave

Available to all ECU staff, salary packaging is an Australian Taxation Office (ATO) approved means of restructuring your income to optimise the value of your salary.

You can do this by receiving your salary as a combination of cash and approved fringe benefits that are paid out of your pre-tax salary, thus reducing your overall taxable income. It is flexible and individual to your changing needs.

Types of benefits include:

  • novated car lease;
  • ECU Sport and Fitness Centre membership;
  • voluntary superannuation contributions;
  • on-campus car parking fees;
  • self-education; and
  • home office equipment.

Salary

Our salaries and employment conditions are defined by our Enterprise Agreement and entitle you to optimise your pay through:

  • ongoing salary increments;
  • pre-tax salary packaging options; and
  • deferred salary schemes

Superannuation

Our employer-funded superannuation is held with industry super fund, UniSuper, and paid in addition to your salary entitling you to:

  • 17 per cent for employees on contracts of two years or more; or
  • 11 per cent for employees on fixed-term or casual contracts of less than one year.
