Inspiring Minds Equity Scholarship Fund.
As a member of the team within the University that is responsible for growing philanthropic giving, I felt like it was very important that I lead by example and be a Staff Giver myself. Coming from a regional area, the financial and moral support I received from my family for living expenses while completing my undergraduate degrees was critical. I am so grateful for my education – but I know that not everyone has that same support or opportunity. It means a lot to know that my contributions to the Staff Giving program are helping people access tertiary education.
Being new to ECU this year, I haven’t met recipients of that particular scholarship yet but look forward to soon at our annual Staff Giving event! I have met beneficiaries of other funds and it’s always so heartening to hear how even seemingly small amounts can have such a huge impact on individuals. The face and real-life stories stay with you. It makes you reflect and appreciate your own journey. And it makes you realise that you can help others in a big way even by giving small amounts. It feels great to be able to pay it forward and contribute to something larger by being part of the staff giving collective.
