What fund do you support through the ECU Staff Giving program?

Inspiring Minds Equity Scholarship Fund.

Why did you become a Staff Giver, and why are you passionate about supporting this fund?

I am fortunate enough to be able to make the phone calls advising students that they have been selected for a scholarship. Delivering this news is such a privilege, I am so grateful to be able to be able to experience the joy and raw emotion that comes after sharing the news with them. In my role, I get to follow the recipients on their educational journey and beyond and can see firsthand the life-changing impact scholarships can have. As Scholarships Coordinator, I see how many applications we receive from outstanding students who are experiencing difficulties. Its devastating that we can't award each and every applicant with a scholarship – so I decided to help where I could and started my Staff Giving journey to do my part to assist these phenomenal students. It is so rewarding knowing I’m helping these students reach their full potential.

Have you had the opportunity to engage with the beneficiaries of the fund you support, and if so, how has that experience influenced your passion for giving?

I get to meet scholarship recipients at our annual Scholarship Ceremony, as well as our annual Staff Giving lunch. It’s amazing to meet these students in person and hear their stories. It makes me realise just how important my gift is, and it inspires me to keep giving and to do everything I can in my role as Scholarships Coordinator to support as many students as possible.
