Angel Cosape

Dorothea Swift Scholarship

"This support has not only alleviated my financial burden but has also provided me with a new sense of hope and determination."

Generously donated by the Swift family, the Dorothea Swift Nursing Scholarship was established in 2011 to assist ECU nursing students who are either from a rural/regional town in Western Australia or who identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student. This longstanding scholarship has helped over 25 students reach their full potential in nursing.

Two scholarships are awarded annually to students undertaking our Bachelor of Nursing course, offering $24,000 in total, paid in $4,000 instalments each semester for 3 years.

For 2023 recipient Angel Cosape, moving away from home and setting up in campus accommodation was both an exciting and daunting prospect.  The scholarship has made a real impact, not only on her day-to-day life as a student but also on her long-term aspirations.

"I live in the countryside of Western Australia and moving to the city to pursue my nursing has been a very big step for me. Throughout the first months of being a first-year nursing student, I had a very rough time coping with my studies, new environment and financial burdens. These concerns made me have self-doubts about pursuing nursing. However, I was overjoyed when I received the news that I had been awarded the Dorothea Swift Nursing Scholarship. Receiving this scholarship is an honour and made me view my passion for nursing stronger."

"This support has not only alleviated my financial burden but has also provided me with a new sense of hope and determination. Your faith in my abilities has boosted my confidence and motivated me to strive for excellence in all aspects of my academic journey. I will use the scholarship funds to help cover my tuition fees, textbooks, and other educational expenses, ensuring that I have the necessary resources to succeed academically. Your support will enable me to focus more on my studies and pursue my academic goals with dedication and enthusiasm without any financial concerns."

A range of scholarships are offered at ECU to help both current and future students complete their studies.  To find out more please contact one of the friendly members of our Office of Development and Alumni Relations team at development@ecu.edu.au.
