WAAPA Scholarship for Excellence

"Thank you for investing in my future and for supporting my dreams"

The WAAPA Scholarship for Excellence, generously donated by Dr Patrick and Mrs Tina Tan, is provided to an undergraduate student completing their final year of study at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

Tyren Maclou, this year's outstanding WAAPA Scholarship for Excellence recipient, is in his final year of a Bachelor of Arts (Acting) degree at WAAPA. Before undertaking this degree, Tyren graduated with a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Performance in 2016.

Studying acting at WAAPA is an inspiring and all-consuming experience. Securing a highly coveted place in our world-leading Bachelor of Arts (Acting) course is reserved for the top-tier of future actors. We are incredibly proud of the outstanding achievements of our current students and graduates of this course.

This three-year degree is a rigorous program that produces actors who are confident, resilient, and prepared for a bright career. The intensity of the course often leaves little room for work opportunities, making it difficult for students to support themselves while studying.

Scholarships such as this ensure that our talented students can reach their full potential.

"I cannot express enough how honoured and grateful I am to have been selected as a scholarship recipient. Receiving this scholarship has not only eased the financial burden of my education but has also given me a tremendous amount of motivation and encouragement to continue pursuing my academic and personal aspirations. It has shown me that hard work and dedication can be recognized and rewarded and has given me a renewed sense of determination to succeed. I can continue my education with a sense of confidence and security, and I am excited to see where this journey takes me.

I am deeply appreciative of the time, effort, and resources dedicated to supporting students like me through the gift of a scholarship. This generosity has had a profound impact on my life, and I promise to use this award to its fullest potential. Thank you for investing in my future and for supporting my dreams."
