"I want to give children from all aspects of life, especially those from a low socioeconomic background, an opportunity to see and reach their full potential."
Destination Australia – an Australian Government initiative - funded 25 scholarships in 2023 for full-time students undertaking their studies at ECU's South West Campus. The scholarships provide students with the opportunity to explore a unique life outside metropolitan cities while undertaking a world-class tertiary education. Successful recipients receive $7,500 per semester for the duration of their course.
"My whole life I have worked hard to achieve my goals and when I finally to take a leap of faith to start my journey into becoming a teacher, I knew I would be doing the same. I didn’t, however, realise just how much of a struggle it would be to study full time, work, and also raise my five children. For me to receive this scholarship means that I will be able to cut down my work responsibilities and concentrate more on my studies.
This semester alone has been a struggle both mentally and financially. The content has been very personal, although it has also given me more insight into why I want to be a teacher. My goal at the end of my studies is to be a remote teacher. I want to give children from all aspects of life, especially those from a low socioeconomic background, an opportunity to see and reach their full potential.
For me, it’s the small wins and the small achievements that keep me going and feeds my hunger to succeed. I would like to say a huge thank you for giving me this opportunity."
