Humanities and Arts Major

This major enables students to develop a firm foundation in historical, geographical, cultural and political knowledge, with sustainability as a central theme. Higher level units include contemporary sustainable design practices, and environmental humanities, in conjunction with an arts practicum that contextualises this knowledge within a great breadth of professional learning experiences.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate broad and coherent historical, geographical, cultural, indigenous and political knowledge considering relevant sustainability principles and global and international perspectives.
  2. Identify and sustainably solve problems relevant to the humanities using critical thinking and judgement.
  3. Review, analyse and synthesise knowledge in design, materials and the creative arts to contribute to sustainable societies.
  4. Analyse and communicate the pedagogical contributions of the Humanities and Arts to the challenges of sustainability.
  5. Demonstrate initiative and judgment to contextualise design practices and environmental humanities in order to make sustainable decisions and solve problems.
  6. Adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts to work in a broad range of government and creative industries both locally and internationally.
  7. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for learning by reflecting and evaluating performance feedback to generate self-directed learning goals.
